Gary Cahill now an option for West Ham after Crystal Palace exit – ExWHUemployee

West Ham are in pursuit of free agent Gary Cahill after the defender announced his exit from Crystal Palace last week, according to ExWHUemployee.

Writing on his Patreon page, the reliable Irons insider reported that “it is getting to the point where even free transfer defenders are becoming options to be considered” as David Moyes aims to add to his squad before the new season kicks off next week.

It is understood that Cahill, 35, is someone who has emerged as a potential option for the Hammers amid their desperation.

“Depressing”

Remember when we finished sixth in the Premier League last season after coming close to qualifying for the Champions League?

We’re starting to think that was a dream because since the end of the season, West Ham have not acted like a club that’s set to play in European competition next season.

Moyes must be really frustrated by how this summer has gone and links to Cahill just sums it all up.

Even ExWHUemployee admitted: “This is all rather depressing to report.”

Cahill isn’t a bad defender, don’t get us wrong. But is he better than what we have? Will he do anything but add a bit of extra depth?

The 35-year-old has praised Moyes in the past, telling Sky Sports News seven years ago [HITC] that he’s a “fantastic manager”.

We want to see the starting line-up considerably strengthened because when you really look into last season in detail, we finished where we did because other teams underperformed and Moyes’ coaching qualities shone through.

It won’t happen again unless the club seizes this opportunity.

In other West Ham news, the Irons have turned their attention to signing this Ligue 1 centre-back after failing to land Kurt Zouma.
