Galatasary make contact with West Ham over move for Fabian Balbuena
Galatasary are interested in signing Fabian Balbuena, whose West Ham contract expires in the summer, according to Turkish outlet Sporx.
The report claims Galatasary have made contact with the 29-year-old’s representative ahead of a possible free transfer.
Lazio were linked to the centre-back last month [Gazzetta Dello Sport] and with no new contract on the horizon at West Ham this could be Balbuena’s final season at the London Stadium.
The Paraguay international was signed by Manuel Pellegrini for £6.5million [Sky Sports] in 2018 but he has struggled for game time under David Moyes.
Thank you and goodbye?
Balbuena has been a great servant and a resolute professional during his time in East London.
He has never kicked up a fuss about being a back-up option and has always performed well when called upon, particularly this season.
Per WhoScored, he has 1.7 tackles and 1.8 interceptions per game, and we have conceded just 18 goals in the 14 league games he has played in.
A lack of pace means he is never going to be a regular Premier League starter but we are grateful for the commitment he has shown.
This summer is the perfect time to let him go and bring in an upgrade though.
We will likely be competing in Europe and in an ideal world we will sign a replacement who is even better than Angelo Ogbonna and Craig Dawson, though that is easier said than done.
By letting Balbuena leave we would be able to put his wages to signing a top-class centre-back – that would signify real progress.
