Gabigol to tell Flamengo he wants out amid West Ham multi-million bid - Sky Sports

Gabriel Barbosa will today (Thursday) tell Flamengo he wants to leave them to move to England with an offer on the table from West Ham, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster reports that West Ham have made an 18-month loan bid for the 25-year-old striker with the option for the deal to be made permanent for £25million.

It is understood that Brazilian giants Flamengo do not want to sell Gabigol but he’s set for talks with them today and he will tell the club he wants to move to the Premier League this month.

Risky business

Gabigol has scored goal after goal in Brazil across his spells at Flamengo and Santos but his record in Europe is a concern.

The Brazil international scored just two goals in 15 appearances across stints at Inter Milan and Benfica.

Inter signed him from Santos in 2016 but after four years of barely playing and being loaned out – one spell saw him go to Benfica and struggle – he was eventually sold back to Brazil with Flamengo striking a deal.

He’s struggled in Itay and Portugal but thrived in his home nation. But Gabigol reportedly feels as though moving to the Premier League increases his chances of playing at the World Cup in Qatar this year.

On the contrary, it may harm his chances.

Gabigol would most likely be a second-choice striker here at West Ham with Michail Antonio clearly David Moyes’ first pick.

He also runs the risk of not doing well when he’s already been able to get into the Brazil squad regularly while playing for Flamengo.

If we’re blunt, it feels as though he wants to move for the money.
