Fulham twist emerges in West Ham United bid to sign Crysencio Summerville

Fulham are set to battle West Ham for the signing of Leeds United’s Crysencio Summerville, according to Lyall Thomas.

The Sky Sports journalist reported via his personal X account [22 July] that the Cottagers are showing initial interest in the Leeds winger alongside the Hammers.

This comes after the news that Julen Lopetegui’s side have submitted an initial proposal for the 22-year-old forward [Fabrizio Romano, 22 July], with talks also taking place on the player’s side.

West Ham United face competition for Crysencio Summerville signing

Considering the amount of talent at Lopetegui’s disposal, it comes as a surprise to see the Hammers linked with a move for the Leeds wide player,

With Jarrod Bowen, Lucas Paqueta, Mohammed Kudus, and now Luis Guilherme at the London Stadium, the Hammers are stacked when it comes to wingers.

Some have suggested that the club are attempting to soften the blow if they were to lose Paqueta this summer, who has been linked with a shock move back to Brazil.

Based on Summerville’s performances last season, and having the potential to be “world-class” [The Athletic], it was always going to be difficult for the Whites to hang onto him this summer.

A second consecutive season in the Championship also increases the chances of Leeds’ star players leaving, with Archie Gray and Glen Kamara already finding new homes.

Multiple clubs across Europe were impressed by the young Dutchman as he nearly led his club back to the Premier League after facing relegation the season before.

He notched 19 goals and nine assists in the Championship last term as Leeds narrowly missed out on promotion, losing the play-off final to Southampton at Wembley.

It could be argued that Marco Silva’s Fulham side are more in need of a new winger, though the new era under Lopetegui and the potential for European football qualification could sway the player’s decision this summer.

In other West Ham news, Julen Lopetegui is set to make a decision on Andy Irving after what he did on Saturday.
