Flynn Downes ready to quit West Ham United as Southampton loan nears end

Flynn Downes is open to leaving West Ham United this summer, according to The Atheltic.

The news publication reported online (17 May) that many outgoings are expected at the London Stadium during the upcoming transfer window.

One player who is open to leaving is boyhood West Ham supporter Downes, who joined the club from Swansea in 2022.

The midfielder has been playing his football on loan with Southampton in the Championship this season, with the Saints still in with a chance of promotion via the play-offs.

Could Flynn Downes quit life at the London Stadium and West Ham United?

It is no surprise that Downes is keen to leave the Hammers.

Having joined the club ahead of the 2022/23 season getting underway, the midfielder would go on to make just seven Premier League starts under David Moyes.

Across all competitions he played just over 1,500 minutes of football, spending most of the season on the bench.

Since joining Southampton on loan, Downes has seen his playing time increase significantly.

He has been a regular at St Mary’s, starting 31 matches in the Championship, and will likely be keen to continue playing frequent first-team football next season.

With Moyes on his way out and Julen Lopetegui expected to arrive in East London, there will be no guarantees for Downes at the London Stadium next season.

West Ham
Flynn Downes could be set to quit West Ham United.

Southampton are keen to make his stay permanent, and if the Saints are to make an instant return to the Premier League, that would surely be a very favourable move for the 25-year-old.
