Federico Gatti makes decision after West Ham United approach to Juventus

West Ham United target Federico Gatti has decided to stay at Juventus this summer, according to Tuttosport.

The Italian source reported on Saturday (13 July) that the Hammers have been joined by Everton and Newcastle United in making approaches for the centre-back.

However, 26-year-old Italy international is said to have rejected all three proposals from the Premier League clubs.

West Ham United falter in another defensive transfer

While Julen Lopetegui has been able to add Wolves’ Max Kilman to his defensive ranks this summer, it is clear that there is still plenty of work to do at the London Stadium.

The current trio of Kurt Zouma, Nayef Aguerd and Konstantinos Mavropanos were all heavily criticised throughout the 2023/24 campaign, and are now all linked with moves away from the capital.

Angelo Ogbonna is no longer a backup option for the Hammers, having seen his deal expire at the London Stadium, leaving the other three to think about their futures.

Gatti, who has been with Juventus since 2022 after signing from Frosinone, would add some much-needed wisdom and calmness to the backline, having made 63 senior appearances in Italy and been involved with the national team.

Despite this, it appears the 26-year-old has already decided on his future despite so much interest from the Premier League and no longer looks likely to depart the Allianz Stadium.

Having only conceded fewer goals than Luton Town, Burnley and Sheffield United in the Premier League last term, Lopetegui has plenty of work on his hands before the 2024/25 campaign kicks off.
