Fabrizio Romano: Jesse Lingard will only leave Manchester United for West Ham

West Ham are the only club that Jesse Lingard will leave Manchester United for this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The 28-year-old enjoyed a successful loan spell at the London Stadium last season, joining in late January and helping to inspire the Irons to a sixth-placed finish that secured Europa League qualification.

Appearing on the Strettycast podcast [29/06/21], world-renowned transfer guru Romano was asked to give an update on the England international’s future.

West Ham

“From what I heard it’s West Ham or Manchester United,” he said.

“I don’t see him leaving for another club.

“If he has to leave Manchester United it’s for West Ham. If not, he’s staying at Manchester United and they’re going to discuss his contract.

“From what I know they have a meeting scheduled to discuss it to see what happens in the next days and weeks.”

Encouraging

Well, it looks like we made quite the impression on Lingard.

He was obviously reticent to leave Manchester United in the first place, knowing whatever step he would take would be seen as a ‘step down’, but he was aware it was an important move to reignite his flailing career.

His loan spell with the Irons probably went even better than he expected as he exploded into life with a number of crucial goals and assists, even earning an unlikely England recall in the process.

As such, we’re now a real consideration for him as he ponders his next step.

It will be a wrench for him to leave his boyhood club in Manchester United, but despite his brilliant recent form he will surely find it impossible to break into their starting XI on most weeks.

Bruno Fernandes starts in his most favoured attacking midfield position and there is no chance the Portuguese maestro will be dropped, while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is likely to favour pace on the wings with Marcus Rashford likely to be joined by Borussia Dortmund superstar Jadon Sancho, if reports are to be believed.

Hopefully, both he and Manchester United will see sense and sanction his return back to West Ham, in what could be our most crucial bit of business this summer.

In other West Ham news, the Irons have lodged an ‘Important’ bid for this 25-year-old La Liga star.
