Fabrizio Romano discusses future of West Ham star Declan Rice amid Chelsea and Man Utd links
There is no chance of Declan Rice leaving West Ham in the January transfer window, according to The Daily Telegraph’s Mike McGrath.
The reliable journalist was speaking live via Fabrizio Romano’s official Twitch channel [12/10/21] on Tuesday afternoon when the Italian transfer guru posed a potential Irons exit for the 22-year-old England international.
“A player who has always been rumoured between Chelsea and Manchester United, he’s always been on their list, is Declan Rice,” Romano said.
“Do you think there are chances of him moving in January? I think it will be really difficult because of the amount of money they need to sign Declan Rice from West Ham. They ask for a lot of money so January is not so easy. Is he a possibility for both clubs?”
McGrath replied: “From what I’m hearing West Ham wouldn’t ever want to just sell for the money, they’d want it to be for sporting reasons, that he would want to go for a new challenge rather than just accept a big offer.
“So I actually see it being quite a difficult transfer for someone to do and it wouldn’t be in January, it would be in the summer if anybody did try.”
Romano: “It will be an interesting one with Declan Rice to see in the coming months what is going to happen and in the summer.”
Braced for summer bids?
Clubs in the top half of the Premier League table are usually loathed to do business in January, especially big deals.
Rice would certainly come under that category as one would expect it would take a mammoth fee to prise him away from East London, with a value of £100million-plus banded around this year.
There is zero chance of Rice leaving the London Stadium in January, he is just too important to the club, often skippering the side in the absence of Mark Noble as he winds down the final season of his Irons career on the bench.
West Ham will also expect to be in the knockout stages of the Europa League in the new year after kicking off their campaign with two victories, and they will want Rice to lead them as far as possible in the competition.
Events may take a turn in the summer, however; Manchester United are crying out for a defensive-minded midfielder while Chelsea may look to re-sign their former academy player with the likes of Jorginho and N’Golo Kante both in their thirties next year.
West Ham’s resolve will truly be tested then.
