Fabricio Bruno gives up on West Ham United transfer despite update on millions
Fabricio Bruno has given up on a move to West Ham and will remain with his current club Flamengo instead, according to Vene Casagrande.
The Brazilian journalist reported via his personal X account [30 May] that the player has rejected the Hammers’ salary proposal and has decided to remain at Flamengo.
It is understood that Bruno was set to move to the London Stadium on a £12.8million deal this summer, though it appears there has been a disagreement over his wage.
West Ham United miss out on Flamengo’s Fabricio Bruno
Considering the potential budget at the London Stadium this summer, fans will be extremely disappointed to see the transfer move fall through due to differences in wage expectations.
The defence is one of the biggest problems for Julen Lopetegui to solve this summer, with Kurt Zouma, Nayef Aguerd, Konstantinos Mavropanos and Angelo Ogbonna all taking heavy criticism this season.
Only Luton Town, Burnley and Sheffield United conceded more goals in the Premier League this season despite the Irons finishing ninth in the league table, which eventually saw David Moyes exit the club.
Despite a lack of experience in Europe’s top five leagues, Tim Steidten seems to be a big fan of the Brazilian leagues and looked to have found a gem in Bruno.
With 114 appearances for Flamengo since February 2022, he has recently earned himself a call-up to the Brazil national team, especially impressing as Brazil beat England at the London Stadium in March.
It is an extremely early transfer blow for the Hammers, especially with the summer transfer window still yet to open, though this still leaves Lopetegui and his team plenty of time to find a new signing.
There is no doubt that some fans will already be disappointed to see the club miss out on a signing already, however.
