Dharmesh Sheth provides West Ham United update, club in advanced talks to sign midfielder
West Ham are in advanced talks to sign Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse, according to Dharmesh Sheth.
The Sky Sports journalist tweeted on 1 August that the Hammers are now “increasingly optimistic” that they can close out a deal to deal to bring the Saints captain to the London Stadium.
He said the Irons have been “encouraged” by the 28-year-old’s desire to join the club after previously seeing a bid worth £20million rejected for him.
Breakthrough
This appears to be a significant breakthrough in the Hammers’ bid to sign Ward-Prowse and bring in a much-needed option in midfield.
There has been no secret made of David Moyes’s desire to bring the Southampton captain to East London this summer and he will be pleased to see progress being made towards striking a deal.
Sheth didn’t reveal the figures that are currently being talked about between the two clubs, but it’s unlikely to be anywhere near the £40million valuation the Championship side were believed to be looking for.

Although some fans haven’t been too keen on signing Ward-Prowse, many of them will just be pleased to see the club are getting closer to bringing someone in after there have currently been no new additions made to the squad.
There is obviously plenty that can still happen to stop this deal from going through, but it does now appear to be edging closer.
In other West Ham news, one Hammers star is expected to join a CL club in the next few days.
