Dharmesh Sheth moots door open for West Ham United to sign Harry Maguire amid Manchester United transfer development

Harry Maguire could leave Manchester United amid interest from West Ham, according to Dharmesh Sheth.

The Sky Sports journalist believes Jonny Evans’ surprise return to Manchester United could open the door for Maguire to leave Old Trafford.

This comes amid West Ham’s interest in Maguire after they saw a loan offer knocked back for the 30-year-old, (The Guardian, 17 July).

“The central defensive area was probably going to come into play if there was a departure,” said Sheth in a video clip on the Sky Sports Transfer Centre on Tuesday (18 July, 07:28pm).

“West Ham are very interested in signing Harry Maguire.

“If there was a departure – for example, Harry Maguire – then you could bring someone in like Jonny Evans, who’s got Premier League pedigree, who knows the football club.

“Something tells me that it might not just be a deal that is for pre-season, even though that’s how it’s being illustrated right now. It’s definitely one to keep an eye on.”

Interesting

West Ham need a central defender and Maguire could be the perfect fit. Although things haven’t always gone his way in Manchester, he was terrific for Leicester and always performs in an England shirt.

Very few would have predicted Evans returning to the Red Devils and if Sheth is right and Evans is set to stick around for longer than pre-season, despite suggestions his return is just a short-term one (BBC Sport, 18 July), that would surely push Maguire closer to an exit.

After being stripped of his role as captain it is clear that ten Hag is not the biggest fan of the England international and a move away might be the best thing for Maguire’s career.

He could be a real success with the Hammers and will get regular game time, something which is no longer a certainty in Manchester.

If Evans does stick around that would surely encourage Maguire to leave, which would be a big boost for David Moyes’ side.

In other West Ham news, Harvey Barnes has made a decision on interest from the Hammers and Newcastle United.
