Dharmesh Sheth: Manchester United not set to make summer bid for West Ham star Declan Rice
Manchester United have no designs on making a summer bid for West Ham midfielder Declan Rice, according to Dharmesh Sheth.
Speaking live on Sky Sports, in a video relayed by Football Daily on Twitter, the journalist delivered a transfer update on the 22-year-old England international.
“They’ve [Manchester United] also been linked with Declan Rice, that’s been there for two or three windows now,” Sheth said.
“I’m told, as it stands, that there are no plans to move for Declan Rice in this transfer window, and what’s more, West Ham simply aren’t for selling in this transfer window.
“That’s the noises we are getting from West Ham.”
One club down
So, it appears the club do not have to worry about Manchester United making a swoop for Rice’s signature this summer.
The 2020/21 Premier League runners-up have been mentioned as a possible destination for the Iron star, with Chelsea and Manchester City also linked.
Given the money it would take to prise him away from the London Stadium, those three are the only ones even worth mentioning anyway.
With Manchester City heavily reported to be in for Rice’s international teammates Harry Kane and Jack Grealish, it’s hard to see them making a move either, particularly after they handed Fernandinho a contract extension.
That would leave just Chelsea in the race, and West Ham supporters will be hoping that the club can ward off any interest from them for at least one more year.
Sheth claims the club’s stance towards Rice exit is pretty clear – they don’t want to sell him this summer, so it looks like fans will get to enjoy his talents in east London for a while longer.
In other West Ham news, the Irons have made an approach to sign this English 24-year-old.
