Declan Rice reacts as West Ham United agree terms for new transfer

Declan Rice has sent his best wishes to Nathan Trott after West Ham United confirmed the goalkeeper’s exit on Saturday.

In an update on their official website (22 June), the Irons confirmed that Trott, 25, has completed a permanent transfer to Danish giants FC Copenhagen for an undisclosed fee.

Copenhagen also announced the news on their official Instagram account, adding that the goalkeeper has signed a four-year deal in the Danish capital.

Arsenal star Rice was quick to react to the news regarding his former West Ham teammate.

“What a keeper,” said the England midfielder.

“All the best, Trotty.”

Will West Ham United need to sign a new goalkeeper?

Julen Lopetegui doesn’t really need to alter the goalkeeping options at the London Stadium too much.

In Alphonse Areola, he has a very reliable pair of hands between the sticks for the upcoming 2024/25 season while Łukasz Fabiański offers a huge amount of experience and quality as a second-choice shot-stopper.

Trott has been on the books at West Ham since 2016 but had only made one first-team appearance in his time at the club.

He’d spent the last two seasons on loan at Vejle in Denmark, which is obviously what led to him catching the eye of Copenhagen as they seek to re-establish themselves as the best team in the Danish Superliga.

Does Lopetegui need to add a new goalkeeper to his squad to replace Trott? Considering he’s been out on loan, the answer is probably no.

However, Fabianski isn’t getting any younger so it might not be a bad idea to bring in a top youngster to learn from the Polish ace before eventually challenging Areola for the number one shirt.
