David Sullivan ridiculousness on show again amid £13m Charlie Cresswell transfer update

David Sullivan hasn’t made himself look any better as West Ham look to sign Charlie Cresswell.

West Ham have made a last-gasp effort to sign Cresswell from Toulouse after a largely difficult start to the campaign at the London Stadium.

This has seen Graham Potter show a keen interest in bringing a new centre-back in on deadline day, with Igor Julio of Brighton also linked to West Ham.

The need for defensive reinforcements have been stepped up as Aguerd looks set to move to Marseille for £19.9million before the window slams shut.

As a result, an approach for Cresswell hasn’t come as a surprise, but it has once again sparked annoyance from the claret and blue faithful toward Sullivan.

West Ham make silly offer for Charlie Cresswell

There is no surprise surrounding anything that the Hammers’ chairman does when it comes to the transfer window after years of frustration.

With that being said, Potter and Co. need him to work some magic, something which could see Sullivan and West Ham go all out for Cresswell before the 7pm transfer deadline.

As positive a deal as this could prove to be for the Irons, it looks as if the 76-year-old is making pointless offers which could ultimately hamper the E20 club.

This comes after Alan Nixon reported via Patreon on 1 September that West Ham tabled a loan offer for Cresswell, which has since been rejected by Toulouse.

The Hammers are said to want the centre-back temporarily before committing to a £13million deal, a figure which has also been turned down.

In order to part ways with the England under-21 international, the Ligue 1 side want £17m, but Sullivan wants to come up with a compromise.

With Aguerd seemingly out the door for nearly £20m, there is no reason why those funds can’t be utilised on signing an alternative defensive option.

Cresswell could prove to be an ideal option given his previous links to English football, as well as being a regular with the England u21 side.

As a result, it feels ridiculous that Sullivan is holding out for a loan bid, which was never going to be accepted at this stage of the summer.

In today’s market, a £17m fee for an England youth international at just 23 years old could prove to be a bargain, although the Irons and Sullivan aren’t too well known for those.
