David Sullivan makes West Ham United transfer decision on Dominic Calvert-Lewin

West Ham United chairman David Sullivan is unlikely to spend £40million on Everton ace Dominic Calvert-Lewin this summer, according to talkSPORT.

The radio station reported via its website [16 July] that West Ham are the latest Premier League side to show a serious interest in Calvert-Lewin.

As the striker has now gone into the final year of his contract at Goodison Park, interested parties including West Ham will likely hold out until the end of the summer window where a deal could be struck at a cheaper rate.

However, as of right now, Sullivan is not willing to sanction such a high payment for an injury-prone player.

West Ham United should turn attention away from Dominic Calvert-Lewin

It’s no surprise to any football fans that Julen Lopetegui is vying for the transfer of a number nine this summer.

Both Danny Ings and Michail Antonio massively underperformed last season with both failing to hit double figures for goals.

The latter could even be on his way out of the club [GZH, 28 June] as he enters the twilight years of his career at the age of 34.

Although Calvert-Lewin would be a stellar acquisition and a major upgrade for the Hammers, his injury record is somewhat off-putting.

Since arriving in Merseyside back in 2016, the striker has missed a total of 95 games through injury with 35 of those missed games coming in the last two seasons [Transfermarkt].

This averages out at just under 12 games per season which, for a Premier League striker, isn’t ideal.

Someone such as Matias Soule or even Steven Bergwijn, who the Hammers have been linked with [CaughtOffside, 15 July] this window, would no doubt be a far safer option for the London-based club.
