David Sullivan incompetence on show amid Artem Dovbyk and West Ham transfer news

West Ham United have reached out to Roma with regards to a potential deal for forward Artem Dovbyk.

The Hammers are in desperate need of at least one new attacker as Niclas Fullkrug is on the verge of leaving West Ham.

Fullkrug’s exit, hopefully on a permanent basis, will free up funds for David Sullivan to bring in a goalscorer that Nuno Espirito Santo craves.

More and more players are being linked with a move to the London Stadium, with Swansea City’s Zan Vipotnik supposedly wanted by West Ham.

Now, a report by Sportmediaset suggests Roma ace Dovbyk is the latest name on West Ham’s transfer radar.

West Ham make initial enquiry for Artem Dovbyk

The report indicates that West Ham have made contact with Roma, who are competing across multiple fronts including the Europa League this season, although it has gone no further than initial talks at this stage.

Dovbyk scored 12 goals in Serie A last season – only six others netted more – but he has only two goals and one assist in 10 outings so far this campaign, albeit most of them from the bench.

While the Ukraine international clearly has something about him, his form has dipped this season and he turns 29 next year.

The biggest worry from the perspective of West Ham fans, however, is that this is yet another forward being looked at by the Hammers.

Every day seems to bring a new name, possessing different qualities, which suggests Sullivan and his staff have no real clue who to go for.

The transfer window opens on 1 January and there needs to be a signing concluded early on in the window.

That is easier said than done, granted, but West Ham have known for a while now that Fullkrug’s replacement needs to be snapped up early on.

Not the first time West Ham have been in for Dovbyk

West Ham fans can be forgiven for getting a sense of déjà vu when they read Dovbyk’s name in relation to the Hammers.

It was claimed in July 2024 that West Ham had tabled a bid for Dovbyk in the region of £30million, but were unable to conclude a deal.

Earlier this year reports surfaced indicating that West Ham could be back in for Dovbyk after former United loanee Evan Ferguson’s move to Rome.

If Dovbyk is the forward West Ham land on, they need to seriously ramp things up. There is plenty of talk about ‘initial talks’ right now, but fans need to know there is a proper plan in place.
