David Sullivan does homework on Eusebio Di Francesco as West Ham United contact made

David Sullivan is doing his homework on Frosinone boss Eusebio Di Francesco, who’s emerged as a potential replacement for David Moyes at West Ham United this summer, according to TBR Football.

The report on 25 April reveals that, alongside the Italian, the names on the Hammers’ shortlist include Paulo Fonseca, Thomas Tuchel and Gary O’Neil alongside their widely reported interest in Ruben Amorim and Julen Lopetegui.

Di Francesco, who represented Italy 12 times between 1998 and 2000 in his playing career, is also thought to be learning English in anticipation of a potential move to a Premier League club.

Would Eusebio Di Francesco be a good appointment for West Ham United?

Di Francesco’s present employment at struggling Frosinone may cause some Hammers fans to write him off as a potential option – but context is required to paint a fuller picture of the Italian’s managerial abilities.

This is Frosinone’s first season back in Serie A since 2019 and their budget is one of the smallest in the division. Only goal difference separates them from safety and, should Di Francesco keep them afloat, it will be a noteworthy achievement.

But the 54-year-old’s experience is far from limited to relegation scraps. He has also managed Roma and Sassuolo – laying the groundwork at the latter before being succeeded by a certain Roberto De Zerbi, who is now earning plenty of plaudits for his work at Brighton.

Di Francesco guided Sassuolo to promotion in 2013 and, by 2016, the club had secured a sixth-placed finish and a place in the third qualifying round of the Europa League – a remarkable rise.

His time at Roma was also impressive, with the club finishing third in his first season and reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League, losing out narrowly to Liverpool by a 7-6 aggregate scoreline – winning the second leg 4-2 after a 5-2 loss in the first game.

If Di Francesco ends up replacing Moyes this summer, West Ham fans will hope he can translate his success in Italy to England.
