David Sullivan could yet strike it rich as Ajax eye forgotten West Ham man

David Sullivan could be set to bank some extra fees from outgoing West Ham transfers this January window.

The Hammers have spent over £45million this transfer window already, with Taty Castellanos and Pablo both arriving at the London Stadium.

Nuno Espirito Santo is trying to keep West Ham up as the Irons face the threat of Premier League relegation, and the head coach needs all the quality he can get.

Sullivan may be forced to sell Lucas Paqueta, who Nuno does not want to lose, with the Brazilian’s heart set on a return to his homeland with Flamengo in a potential £35million deal.

However, Paqueta isn’t the only man who could bring Sullivan some extra funds this month, with Edson Alvarez now potentially leaving E20 for good.

West Ham's done deals so far.

Edson Alvarez could see Fenerbahce stay cut short for Ajax return

West Ham loaned Alvarez to Fenerbahce in the summer after it became clear the midfielder was not a part of Graham Potter’s plans.

The Mexican has played 10 times for the Turkish side in the Super Lig this season, as Fenerbahce have the chance to make the loan move a permanent switch.

West Ham signed Alvarez from Ajax in 2023, where the defensive midfielder played for over three years, but could be set for a return to his former side.

According to De Telegraaf, Ajax are interested in re-signing Alvarez, as their sporting director, Marijn Beuker, has travelled to Istanbul to meet with the West Ham loanee.

Fenerbahce are said to be close to signing former Chelsea star and World Cup winner N’Golo Kante, which means that the midfielder could see limited minutes for the Turkish side.

Alvarez now knows that the door is open to an Ajax return, which could see the Hammers sell him back to the club they signed him from over two years ago for a possible fee of around £19m.

West Ham look set for new-look midfield in 2026; here’s why

Sullivan looks to be shifting the deadwood that Julen Lopetegui brought to West Ham and more.

Alvarez is set for a permanent exit from the Hammers this month, or at the very latest, this summer, with Guido Rodriguez also on his way out.

Tomas Soucek could also head to Turkey with Galatasaray interested, as Nuno Espirito Santo seems to fancy youth options in Freddie Potts and Mateus Fernandes.

But Galatasaray have also been linked with Soungoutou Magassa, as the Hammers have a chance to make a quick profit on the young Frenchman.

Andy Irving’s departure has made way for new additions in the middle of the park, and in the coming weeks, Nuno could have multiple new men in midfield.
