David Moyes makes decision on Vladimir Coufal as West Ham United contract news emerges
David Moyes has no plans to offer defender Vladimir Coufal a new contract at West Ham, according to Sean Whetstone.
The 6foot2 editor tweeted on Wednesday (4 October) that the Hammers are planning to activate the one-year extension option in the 31-year-old’s contract before his deal expires at the end of this season.
He added that the Czech Republic international will be 33 at the start of the 2025/26 campaign and that the Irons will “assess his form” once that time comes around.
Sensible
This is a sensible approach from the West Ham hierarchy as there is no need to rush into offering Coufal a new deal due to the extension option in his contract.
They can trigger that at any point before his deal expires in July next year, so they can take their time and assess his long-term status at the club further down the line.
While he is currently the first-choice right-back under Moyes, the situation could dramatically change by the end of the 2024/25 season.

It’s likely the Hammers will be looking to bring in a younger option at some point in the near future in preparation for Coufal’s departure or drop off in form as he gets older.
But for now, he is playing well for us and, as long as he continues in this fashion, the fullback spot is his to lose with no rival players in his position pulling up any trees at this moment in time.
