David Moyes granted sole responsibility to make West Ham United transfer decision in next 24 hours

David Moyes has been granted the sole responsibility on whether or not to sign midfielder Jesse Lingard for West Ham, according to Sean Whetstone.

The 6foot2 editor tweeted on 12 September that the Hammers’ board will not interfere as the Scotsman decides if he wants to add the England international to his 25-man Premier League squad ahead of the 2pm deadline on Wednesday (13 September).

But as the 30-year-old is a free agent, the Irons boss can still add him to his squad after the deadline passes if there is a spare spot remaining and the league’s approval is received.

No rush

It doesn’t seem like Moyes is in much of a rush over his decision to offer Lingard a deal after he’s been training with West Ham for a number of weeks.

That means that he might not be entirely convinced that the midfielder would be a good addition to his squad, otherwise, he probably would’ve made the decision by now.

The former Hammers loanee played 70 minutes in a behind-closed-doors friendly for the club against Ipswich Town last week, with the game ending in a 1-1 draw.

West Ham

There hasn’t been an awful lot of interest in Lingard since he was released by Nottingham Forest at the end of last season following a disappointing campaign at the City Ground.

But Moyes is one of the few managers that has found a way to get the best out of him over the years and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him offered a short-term deal to prove he can still play at the highest level.

In other West Ham news, an exit-linked player has failed to prove why he deserves more minutes with the Hammers on international duty.
