Crysencio Summerville ready to escape West Ham nightmare as ‘surprise’ exit route emerges

Crysencio Summerville has been linked with a January exit amid West Ham’s troubles.

Things are looking bleak for the Hammers. West Ham boss Nuno Espirio Santo is fighting to save his job, with his side currently eight points from Premier League safety.

West Ham talisman Lucas Paqueta has been linked with a Flamengo transfer, and there is said to be ‘sympathy’ among Nuno’s squad over James Ward-Prowse’s London Stadium exile; not exactly signs of a happy camp.

Moreover, scoring goals have been a concern for the east London outfit this league season, and yet West Ham are in the process of terminating Callum Wilson’s contract – a player who is the club’s joint second-highest scorer with Paqueta (four).

Now, reports suggest that winger Summerville could be on the move in 2026 as West Ham attempt to stave off relegation to the Championship.

Crysencio Summerville offered chance to leave West Ham ‘nightmare’

There was a real sense of excitement among West Ham fans when they signed Summerville from Leeds United in August 2024 after activating his £25million release clause.

The winger was named the Championship Player of the Season in 2024 but he has struggled with the step up in quality to the Premier League. A return of two goals and six assists in 39 appearances over the past 18 months does not make for great reading.

With West Ham needing a minor miracle to stay up this season, the 24-year-old may be offered an escape route. Turkish outlet Fotospor claim Galatasaray are keeping tabs on the former Feyenoord youngster, in a “surprising” development.

The report adds that West Ham are currently living in a “nightmare”, while Summerville is yet to score this season in the league from his 16 league appearances.

The Rotterdam-born player is “not a priority” for the Turkish giants, but if they cannot land some of their other targets, they may move for Summerville.

Summerville precedent provides West Ham warning

Many West Ham fans have become so fed up with the current malaise at the club that they simply want to tear all the current structures down.

That includes getting rid of the board, moving out of their unpopular stadium, and getting rid of many of their current players – while giving the youth a go in the Championship.

Summerville, who has been unlucky with injuries at West Ham, has shown positive signs on the pitch in recent weeks, and that is currying favour with some supporters.

Crysencio Summerville’s past three seasonsGoals, assists and appearances
Leeds United (2023-24 Championship)19 goals, nine assists, 43 games
West Ham (2024-25 Premier League)One goal, one assist, 19 games
West Ham (2025-26 Premier League)No goals, three assists, 16 games

But if West Ham were to go down, precedent shows he is unlikely to stick around at the club in the Championship.

For example, while he did play a season in the Championship for the Yorkshire outfit, he had yet to show his quality when Leeds were relegated from the Premier League in 2023.

But after excelling in the English second-tier, where Leeds lost to Southampton in the Championship Play-Off Final, Summerville was eager to move on – before joining West Ham. Ergo, it seems unlikely he would drop down a division again if it came to it in 2026.
