‘Confusing’ Edson Alvarez twist emerges despite West Ham exit being agreed
Edson Alvarez looks certain to leave West Ham before the transfer window closes.
Despite the Mexican international only signing for the Hammers two years ago, the midfielder has quickly fallen out of favour under Graham Potter.
Alvarez went the entirety of pre-season without making an appearance for the Hammers after returning from his Gold Cup triumph.
As a result, Ajax were interested in signing Alvarez this summer, but it now appears that he could be set to move elsewhere.

Champions League clubs submit offers for Alvarez
Alvarez looked set to move to Fenerbahce on loan with the option to buy amid reports on Tuesday.
However, according to Yagiz Sabuncuoglu via X on 19 August, despite an agreement being reached for the midfielder between the two clubs, Alvarez’s response is still needed ahead of the potential move.
Now, several other sides have made offers to the 27-year-old, including Champions League outfits Inter Milan and Borussia Dortmund as well as Portuguese giants Porto.
The Mexican international is said to be “confused” by these offers as he edges closer to an exit.

Alvarez will go on to be a success away from West Ham
It is no surprise that Alvarez is being linked to several top European sides.
If a departure is confirmed, the midfielder will likely go on to have a successful career despite his struggles at the West Ham.
According to Fbref on 19 August, over the last year, the Mexican has produced several impressive stats that are similar to top defensive midfielders such as Aston Villa’s Boubacar Kamara.
Stats over the past 365 days per 90 mins | Edson Alvarez |
Passing completion | 85.8% |
Progressive passes | 4.32 |
Tackles | 2.54 |
Interceptions | 0.91 |
Blocks | 1.17 |
Clearances | 2.34 |
Therefore, if utilised properly, there is every chance the 27-year-old could become a key player at Dortmund or Inter.
Going forward, the Hammers may regret this decision, especially if Graham Potter is sacked from West Ham in the near future.
