Brentford eye replacement striker with West Ham interested in Ivan Toney
Brentford are hunting for a replacement for Ivan Toney with West Ham trying to sign the in-form striker, according to The Scottish Sun.
The newspaper reports that the Championship club is eyeing Hibernian striker Kevin Nisbet, who’s scored 17 goals in the Scottish Premiership this season.
It is understood that Toney, 25, is being “tracked” by a number of Premier League clubs and West Ham are one of them.
Claret & Hugh reported last week that talks have already been held with Toney’s representatives about a potential move to the London Stadium.
Brentford ready for Toney exit?
Toney’s future is going to be a massive talking point over the coming weeks and months unless Brentford win the Championship playoffs and get promoted to the Premier League.
The former Newcastle striker scored 30 goals in 44 Championship appearances this season for the Bees, who signed him from Peterborough last year when they sold Ollie Watkins to Aston Villa
Clinton Morrison said on EFL On Quest February 27 that Toney is a “terrific player” amid his sensational season in West London.
West Ham absolutely need a new striker in the summer with Michail Antonio the only senior option David Moyes has at the moment thanks to the sale of Sebastien Haller in January.
Haller’s exit was kind of unexpected but when it came about, we very much expected to see Moyes replace him with another striker.
However, that failed to materialise and has kind of cost us a bit at times this season since the end of the winter transfer window.
Toney is a proven goalscorer in the EFL but is yet to do it in the Premier League.
Players like Watkins, Matheus Pereira, Stuart Dallas and Patrick Bamford have stepped up to the top-flight this season after impressive showings in the Championship.
We’re sure that Toney could light up the Premier League but it could cost a lot to sign him, unfortunately.
In other West Ham news, the Hammers have been tipped to beat Aston Villa to this “major signing”.
