Brennan Johnson update emerges in West Ham United and Tottenham transfer news

Nottingham Forest winger Brennan Johnson would prefer a move to Tottenham over West Ham and Chelsea after the North London club joined the race for his signature, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper reported via their website on 23 August that Johnson, who is valued at £50million by Nottingham Forest, would like to join Spurs, who are preparing a cash-plus-player bid for his services.

Forest have already turned down a £35million offer from Brentford this summer, while West Ham and Chelsea have also been considering making bids for the Welsh international winger.

West Ham battling with top clubs again

West Ham’s transfer intentions have been optimistic in this window, as they repeatedly battle with big clubs for key targets. The club have clearly set their sights at some of the most highly-rated talents in football in their efforts to build on their recent European success.

Johnson’s £50million valuation could put the club off of making a move to sign him after reports suggest they are still haggling with Ajax over a £3-5million difference in their efforts to sign Mohammed Kudus.

Despite his preference to join Tottenham, West Ham would be more likely to offer regular first-team football to the Welshman, and this could be a deciding factor if any deal is reached.

Johnson scored eight goals and recorded three assists in the Premier League last season, in a very impressive debut season in the top flight, and he fits in well with David Moyes’ intentions to bring in homegrown players with Premier League experience.

For £50million, the Hammers could probably find better value for money elsewhere, and they may have to if Spurs get their move over the line in the coming days.

In other West Ham news, European giants have been linked with a move for one Hammers ace.
