Breel Embolo one to keep an eye on for West Ham fans

ExWHUemployee has been told to keep an eye on developments regarding West Ham and their bid to sign Borussia Monchengladbach striker Breel Embolo.

In an update on his Patreon page, the reliable Hammers insider reports that David Moyes was impressed by the 24-year-old’s performances for Switzerland at the European Championships this summer.

Evening Standard journalist Jack Rosser has recently told the Transfer Tavern that a deal for Embolo is unlikely but ExWHUemployee seems to have been told otherwise.

“A decent source (with a great background in the media) but one that I have only just got to know has told me to keep an eye on the situation around Swiss forward Breel Embolo,” Ex wrote on his Patreon page.

“He currently plays for German side Borussia Monchengladbach and is aged 24. When he joined the German side we were very interested in him and his performances in the Euros impressed David Moyes.”

Hardly a natural goalscorer

West Ham need a new striker before the end of the transfer window and while Embolo is a centre-forward with plenty of experience in a major European league, he doesn’t blow us away.

The former Basel striker has played for both Schalke and Gladbach in the Bundesliga, scoring 23 times in 107 appearances in Germany’s top-flight.

He’s also been capped 48 times by Switzerland and scored just six times for them.

Earlier in his career, Embolo was mainly played out wide but he’s drifted inside to be an out-and-out centre-forward.

However, his lack of goals means that he might be someone who struggles to hit the ground running in the Premier League.

Last term, he scored five times in 31 Bundesliga appearances, supplying six assists in the process.

Moyes could be eyeing up Embolo with the view to him being more of a deep-lying striker who links up with the other attackers, rather than someone who is getting on the end of attacks.

If that is the case, re-signing Jesse Lingard or at least replacing the Manchester United man has to be a massive priority.
