Borussia Dortmund ‘in talks for Edson Alvarez’ as West Ham exit news emerges
Edson Alvarez has struggled to tie down a permanent starting berth at West Ham United and could soon be heading for the exit.
The Mexico international has featured 24 times in the Premier League this season, starting 18 matches, but Graham Potter does not seem fully convinced by his abilities.
The 27-year-old started from the bench in the 1-0 loss to Wolves (1 April) but was brought on after 45 minutes.
However, he could be set to depart the London Stadium after a new development from Germany.

Alvarez could exit West Ham after Borussia Dortmund talks held
West Ham are considering allowing Alvarez to leave at the end of the season after an underwhelming campaign.
A report from El Universal’s print edition (3 April) claims that Borussia Dortmund have already held talks with the Hammers over a potential move.
It states that the Irons’ board is seriously considering letting the Mexican leave, with Monaco also approaching the East London club.

West Ham set for summer rebuild
The Hammers are set for a huge summer rebuild as Potter looks to mould the squad to his style of play, something which he is currently struggling to do.
The engine room will be a critical aspect of that revamp and Alvarez could be deemed as surplus to requirements after struggling to fully grasp a starting spot.
Stats (Premier League) | Alvarez |
Matches | 24 |
Starts | 18 |
Pass accuracy | 86.3% |
Ground duels won | 103 (51.5%) |
Aerial duels won | 28 (58.3%) |
Potter faces an almighty task trying to undo the bad recruitment from Julen Lopetegui and Tim Steidten last summer that has left the Hammers in this position and seen both of them dismissed from their posts.
He must get it right, if he intends to take the Irons back towards the higher echelons of the Premier League with European qualification ultimately the target for the ex-Brighton man.
A departure for the former Ajax midfielder would further weaken Potter’s options in the centre of the park and a sufficient replacement would need to be secured before any deal was even considered.
However, money talks and if the fee being offered from Germany and France is big enough, that could tempt the Hammers into selling one of their star assets, albeit it one that has not fully shown his potential in London.
