Blackburn want just £8m for West Ham-linked striker Adam Armstrong

Blackburn would be willing to cash in on West Ham-linked striker Adam Armstrong for just £8million this summer, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper reports that while Blackburn would prefer to keep Armstrong, 24, going into next season, the former Newcastle centre-forward also has just one year left on his contract at Ewood Park.

It is understood that Norwich and Southampton are both leading the race to sign the Championship hitman, who netted 29 goals in 43 appearances across all competitions this season.

Price keeps dropping

Armstrong’s valuation is plummeting and that is bound to be because of his contract situation at Ewood Park.

The Express reported at the end of May that Blackburn want £20million for Armstrong but would be willing to accept £16million for their top goalscorer.

However, this latest update by Adrian Kajumba on the Mail website suggests that the Lancashire club is ready to sell their star man for yet another 50 per cent discount.

Either the reporting on Armstrong’s situation at Ewood Park has been consistent or Blackburn are genuinely dropping their demands for Armstrong because they’d rather cash in on him now than lose him for nothing next summer.

West Ham need a new centre-forward this summer and while we think Armstrong would be a good addition to David Moyes’ squad, we don’t think that he would be the new starting striker everyone is hoping for.

Yes, Michail Antonio has proven himself to be more than capable of spearheading our attack but we’d love to see someone come in who can easily be our starting striker.

Is Armstrong that?

He’s done very well for an average Championship club but there have to be doubts about whether he can perform for an ambitious Premier League club and also a club that’s going to be playing in the Europa League.

As back-up – and for £8million – Armstrong would be decent. But we’d hope for better.

In other West Ham news, the Irons are considering re-hiring this man.
