Barcelona receive millions after West Ham transfer agreement emerges

West Ham are in a difficult financial situation this summer as a result of previous poor transfer dealings.

The Hammers may have to sell to buy, with assets such as Mohammed Kudus potentially up for sale as they look to improve their PSR situation.

West Ham spent heavily last year on several high-profile players but endured a disastrous season as they finished 14th, sacking Julen Lopetegui along the way.

Graham Potter is aiming to rebuild his squad, with one deal already completed, which will hamstring him in the market, leaving Barcelona delighted.

Barcelona receive Jean-Clair Todibo windfall

West Ham recently confirmed the permanent signing of Jean-Clair Todibo after his loan move from Nice, and paid a hefty fee.

Todibo joined on loan with a conditional obligation to buy, and these conditions were met when West Ham secured Premier League safety.

The fee for Todibo could rise to £32.8million, but Barcelona will now receive a share of this fee.

Mundo Deportivo has reported in its print edition (10 June, page 5), Barcelona will receive around £6.7 million as a result of Todibo’s transfer to West Ham, as their former youngster had a sell-on clause when he left the Blaugrana in 2021.

Todibo needs to improve if he stays at West Ham

Todibo’s loan move becoming permanent was far from ideal for West Ham, given that he signed under Lopetegui, and Potter has inherited the player.

The 25-year-old failed to hit his best form at the London Stadium, and injuries disrupted his first campaign in England.

Todibo has been linked with a shock exit despite his transfer being confirmed, but West Ham would stand to make a loss if they parted ways now.

The Hammers will now hope that Todibo can improve from a difficult year and become a more reliable option at the back to justify the fee spent on him.

West Ham need a lot of reinforcements this summer, and the attack is now being prioritised, meaning Todibo will have to step up and prove that he can be the leader of the defence for the coming seasons.
