Axel Disasi medical scheduled at West Ham as deadline day breakthrough made

Axel Disasi is set to undergo a medical with West Ham before signing on loan prior to Monday’s 7pm deadline.

AC Milan have pulled out of the race to sign Disasi, leaving West Ham with a seemingly free run at the Chelsea defender.

Nuno Espirito Santo is known to be desperately keen on signing a new centre-back before the deadline, as his options in that department are stretched thin.

Jean-Clair Todibo’s straight red card against Chelsea will mean he’s set to miss at least the next three games, leaving just Max Kilman, Konstantinos Mavropanos and 19-year-old Ezra Mayers as the only natural options.

Axel Disasi booked in for West Ham medical

Disasi has been linked to West Ham throughout the winter window, with the 27-year-old finding himself as a first-team outcast at Stamford Bridge.

Indeed, the five-cap France international hasn’t kicked a competitive ball in anger for Chelsea this season, and has instead made a handful of appearances for their academy team.

Disasi‘s last senior competitive experience came on loan with Aston Villa last season, where he made 10 appearances during the second half of the campaign.

In total, he’s made 61 appearances for Chelsea since signing for them in the summer of 2023, but with no future in sight there, he’s now ready to quit Stamford Bridge.

And, as revealed via an X post from Sky Sports reporter Lyall Thomas on Monday, Disasi is now booked in for a West Ham medical on Monday morning.

Disasi will join West Ham on a loan move, ending Nuno’s search for centre-back cover this winter.

Disasi hasn’t seemed convinced by West Ham move

Nuno will now finally be breathing a sigh of relief, as Disasi is set to end his centre-back search in the final hours of the window.

However, the Frenchman hasn’t exactly been making it clear that he’s desperate to sign on at the London Stadium, with recent reports in Italy suggesting he was ready to drop the Hammers in favour of AC Milan.

And, in an X post from The Guardian reporter Jacob Steinberg on Monday, it was suggested that Disasi was stalling on the move to West Ham in order to see if any other interest comes his way.

If that’s true, then that has to be seen as a red flag for the Irons, as given the relegation battle they’re in, Nuno has to be able to call upon players who are ready to give everything for the cause.
