Atletico Madrid want to sign West Ham United striker Gianluca Scamacca
Atletico Madrid are keeping a keen eye on West Ham star Gianluca Scamacca ahead of a potential 2023 transfer, according to Cadena COPE.
The Hammers beat off competition from several clubs on the continent to sign the Italy international in a £34m deal in the summer, and he has so far managed just four goals in 18 appearances for the club.
That form has encouraged Atletico to potentially pursue a deal to take him away for a fresh environment and a report from Spanish journalist Antonio Ruiz suggests they could make a move in 2023.
“Atleti closely follows Gianluca Scamacca, West Ham striker,” they wrote on their official Twitter account (29 December).
“The Rojiblancos probed his signing last summer, but Sassuolo decided to sell him to the Premier League.”
No chance
If West Ham are even remotely a serious club and have any serious intentions to progress and push for Europe regularly, then this can’t be allowed to happen.
We spent years waiting for a new striker to come in to push and compete with Antonio, and we signed a really good one when we completed the deal for Scamacca last summer.
While he’s struggled to adapt so far, it has to be noted that he is playing in a team that has been performing way below the expected level so far and he’s still relatively young.
He’ll have plenty of time to improve and there is no doubt that he has the quality we need to progress as a club. Letting him go would not only be a waste of money, but it would also be a huge step backwards in all possible ways, so it should be a total non-starter.
