Aston Villa ready fresh bid for West Ham United-linked Morgan Rogers as £15m development emerges

Aston Villa are set to table a fourth bid to sign Middlesbrough star Morgan Rogers to fend off interest from West Ham, according to the Daily Mirror.

The newspaper reported on its live transfer tracker on Monday (29 January, 01:38pm) that the Hammers’ Premier League rivals are preparing to offer a package worth up to £15million to sign the 21-year-old forward.

It added that the England youth international, who was born just outside Birmingham, would welcome a move back to the West Midlands area, potentially striking a blow to the Irons’ hopes of landing him in the January transfer window.

Risky

This could potentially be a bit of risky business for either of the Premier League sides as Middlesbrough only paid £1.5million to sign Rogers in the summer.

While that was probably a bargain looking back at it now, only two of his seven goals have actually come at Championship level, with four of his five Carabao Cup strikes coming against sides in League One or lower.

That isn’t to say he might not prove to be an excellent investment down the line, it just seems quite a lot of money to shell out on him after just a few months at the Riverside Stadium.

West Ham

The second tier has, however, been a fairly happy hunting ground for the Hammers in the past, with the likes of Jarrod Bowen and Michail Antonio proving to be superb signings in recent years.

But it does sound as though Rogers’ preferred move would be back to the Birmingham area, handing Villa the edge in the race to sign him this month.
