Artem Dovbyk makes Girona exit decision after West Ham United submit formal transfer offer

Artem Dovbyk has decided to stay at Girona despite being the subject of a formal offer from West Ham United this summer, according to Diario AS.

The Spanish outlet reported on its website (5 July) that offers upwards of €35million [£29.6million] were submitted by both Napoli and the Hammers for the forward, but he is not interested in a move to the Premier League or Serie A.

Atletico Madrid were also understood to be keen to bring the Ukraine international to the Spanish capital, but only made an offer of €25million [£21.1million] which was deemed insufficient by Girona and was declined.

Dovbyk has already decided to tell his agents that he doesn’t want to hear about any interest from any other clubs during the summer transfer window and therefore he will not be making the move to the London Stadium.

Are West Ham United close to any new signings in the summer transfer window?

A new striker was always going to be high on Julen Lopetegui’s agenda during his first transfer window at West Ham as the Hammers have been in need of a new number nine for a number of seasons now.

Although Michail Antonio has always done a good job when he has led the line at the London Stadium, he doesn’t have that clinical edge to score 20 goals a season and the Jamaican international is crying out for some support.

Dovbyk would have certainly been an interesting option for the Hammers as he was prolific in La Liga last term as he scored 24 goals and laid on 10 assists for his teammates in just 39 matches for Girona as they finished third in the league.

But as has been the case for a couple of targets now already this summer, the Irons don’t seem likely to get their man and that is going to have to change sooner rather than later if they want to keep Lopetegui happy at the London Stadium.

There is still plenty of time left in the summer transfer window for the Irons to find a new centre-forward and hopefully, they will have more luck once the Euros and Copa America finish in the coming weeks.
