Areola finished as West Ham make formal Hermansen approach

West Ham need to sign a goalkeeper, and have now made Mads Hermansen their main target.

Hermansen was relegated from the Premier League with Leicester City last season, but was a shining light in an otherwise woeful campaign for the Foxes.

West Ham let Lukasz Fabianski leave on a free transfer, meaning that Alphonse Areola is their only senior goalkeeper, and they arguably need to upgrade on the Frenchman anyway.

Graham Potter has now set his sights on Hermansen, and after weeks of speculation, the Hammers have now formalised their interest in the goalkeeper.

West Ham make offer for Hermansen

West Ham have now made a formal approach to bring Hermansen to the London Stadium, which will see him given another chance in the top flight.

Alex Crook has now reported (31 July) that an approach has been made to sign the 25-year-old, who is expected to leave Leicester this summer.

Leicester have now confirmed the signing of former Everton goalkeeper Asmir Begovic on a free transfer. Therefore, this could now facilitate Hermansen’s exit, with the veteran set to replace him as the first-choice option.

West Ham have been fairly inactive in the transfer market this summer, but are now moving to sign the goalkeeper, just two weeks before the Premier League season begins.

West Ham need to sign Hermansen quickly

West Ham’s approach for Hermansen is positive, as it signals that they are prepared to tie up the deal quickly.

Hermansen would ideally slot straight into the team, but time is running out for him to get acquainted with his new teammates if he does make the move.

West Ham have just two friendlies before their league campaign begins, and if they can sign him in time to play a part in one of them, it would be of huge benefit.

The Hammers begin their season with a trip to face Sunderland, but unless Hermansen is signed in the coming days, Areola will start in goal at the Stadium of Light.
