Angel Gomes open to London Stadium move as ‘dream’ West Ham update shared

Graham Potter will be keen to put his stamp on his West Ham United squad in the summer transfer window, with plenty of work to be done.

The Hammers boss has had a slow start to life at the London Stadium, especially given that resources were limited during the winter transfer window.

Nevertheless, the Hammers are safe from relegation and prepared to change the shape of the squad in the summer transfer window, with Angel Gomes one name on the list of targets.

West Ham eyeing up Gomes transfer

Potter hasn’t had the easiest of circumstances to contend with during his time in East London so far, with several injuries leaving him light on options.

Furthermore, a lack of movement over the winter window has left little space for his side to progress in the time he has been at the helm.

Evan Ferguson was brought to the London Stadium with the hope of increasing his side’s attacking ability, but the 20-year-old has struggled to get going and is unlikely to stay past the expiration of his loan deal.

Nevertheless, it seems as though the boss is now turning his attention to the summer with the hope of making changes to his team.

One man on the list of targets is Angel Gomes, currently of Lille, with Graham Bailey reporting via Hammers News (16 April) that he is Potter’s “dream signing”.

Given Gomes is out of contract at the end of the campaign, his addition could be a shrewd bit of business and Bailey reports that he has been on the manager’s list since he first took over, having asked the hierarchy to bring him in.

Negotiations with the 24-year-old’s agents have been held, but Tottenham are also an interested party and that is said to be putting pressure on the Irons.

West Ham can make a statement with Gomes signing

After the disastrous tenure of Julen Lopetegui at West Ham, David Sullivan has to be prepared to back Potter if there is to be progression at the London Stadium.

In the past, the threat of Tottenham also being interested would be a bigger deal, but with just two points separating the two sides in the Premier League, there is no reason why a move to north London looks any more attractive at this stage.

The two sides have had poor seasons.

Potter has shown he has the ability to get his side playing some nice football, so if this is his dream transfer, then the chief has to be prepared to back that as far as possible in the hope of positive change.

There is sure to be a fair bit of change at West Ham in the summer, meaning new players have to be signed, and given Gomes is available on a free transfer it is surely one worth pushing for.
