Andre Silva transfer: West Ham hold intensive talks in new striker update

West Ham have already held “intensive talks” to sign RB Leipzig striker Andre Silva in the winter transfer window, according to BILD.

The German outlet reports [14 January] that the Hammers are very interested in the 29-year-old, with the Bundesliga side wanting to get their “big earner” off the payroll before 3 February.

Graham Potter arrived at the London Stadium with a difficult situation on his hands, with Niclas Fullkrug sidelined for the next three months [Jack Rosser], Jarrod Bowen out and Michail Antonio recovering from a car accident.

West Ham desperate for new striker signing at the London Stadium

The new manager might believe a new striker is not a desperate need after scoring three goals in a 3-2 win against Fulham on Tuesday 14 January, but that should not be the case.

With so many stars out injured, the forward line consisted of Mohammed Kudus, Tomas Soucek, Carlos Soler and Lucas Paqueta, albeit three of them got on the scoresheet.

After the victory, the Hammers have moved 10 points clear of the relegation zone and are just two points from breaking into the top half of the table, something which seems miles away under Julen Lopetegui.

Despite all of this, the Portuguese striker might not be what the London club need if they are to solve their striker issues this month before the transfer window slams shut.

With only eight substitute appearances in the Bundesliga this season, Silva has scored once and assisted another two, his only goal since returning back from his Real Sociedad loan spell.

He has certainly proven himself with RB Leipzig, notching 26 goals in 95 appearances before leaving on loan last season, but his confidence looks to have taken a massive hit this term.

The Hammers need someone who will make an instant impact. He does not seem like the right man.
