Alexandre Lacazette to quit Arsenal, West Ham potential destination

Alexandre Lacazette is likely to quit Arsenal in the coming months and a move to West Ham is on the cards, according to 90min.

The football news outlet reports that either Lacazette, 30, or Arsenal are showing interest in extending the French striker’s contract, which is currently due to expire next year.

It is understood that Lacazette could leave the Emirates as early as January, with billionaire-owned Arsenal [Forbes] set to demand a small transfer fee for the ex-Lyon striker.

90min adds that Lyon are keen on re-signing him while clubs in Spain, Germany and Italy are also said to be interested.

West Ham and Crystal Palace are also reportedly potential destinations for the out-of-favour Gunners man.

Do we need him?

Lacazette seems as though he wants to move on from Arsenal and we can’t blame him due to the fact that he’s not featuring all too often for Mikel Arteta.

The France international missed the first two Premier League matches of the season due to illness but has still only played once in the league when he came off the bench for the final half an hour against Manchester City last month.

Lacazette has been used in the Carabao Cup, scoring in each of Arsenal’s wins over West Brom and Wimbledon, who the Gunners beat 3-0 last night (Wednesday).

But if Lacazette wants to move on then surely he’d either move on to earn good money or to get regular game-time.

And with Michail Antonio in great form at the London Stadium, we doubt that either of those would be on offer to Lacazette if he swapped North London for East.

Lacazette has been a proven goalscorer throughout his career but Antonio is in the form of his life and we cannot see David Moyes overlooking the Jamaica international any time soon.

We definitely need a back-up for Antonio for when he’s injured or if the side needs rotating.

But we’d rather see a young, up-and-comer play in Antonio’s shadow rather than someone who is bound to cost an arm and a leg in wages.

In other West Ham, Ravel Morrison has reacted to this major transfer news from the club.
