Al-Ahli chief drops update on bid to sign West Ham United star Zouma after medical failure
Shabab Al-Ahli board member Abdul Majeed Hussein has offered an update on why Kurt Zouma didn’t complete a transfer from West Ham.
The ex-Hammers captain looked set to move to Dubai before a deal fell through thanks to medical history issues [The Times].
Speaking to ADSportsTV on 20 August, a Member of the Board of Directors or Al-Ahli, Hussein discussed the failed deal for the 29-year-old.
He said: “Requesting Zouma’s services for Al-Ahly is believed to have been one of the positive and good things, but in the end, for one reason or another, we did not succeed in the process.”
Kurt Zouma failed Al-Ahli move from West Ham discussed
It did come as a surprise earlier in the window that Julen Lopetegui wanted to get rid of the Frenchman who was the skipper under David Moyes.
The Hammers had a poor season defensively but to cut ties with one of the club’s main defenders seemed to be a rash decision.
With Max Kilman and Jean-Clair Todibo coming in, they are likely to keep hold of spots in the starting XI on a regular basis.
Konstantinos Mavrapanos began the season in the side with Zouma not even afforded a role in the matchday squad.
This just shows that it is certainly the end of the road for Zouma a positive spell at the London Stadium.
Now a move away does seem to make sense for all parties given the transfer business that has been conducted this summer.
Although a move to Dubai appears to be off the table, even being released seems more likely than a return to the first team.
In other West Ham news, exits now likely as talks with Carlos Soler progress.
