West Ham’s stark decline under Graham Potter in numbers as fans make feelings known

West Ham have had a dreadful start to the season under Graham Potter.

Losing 3-0 to Tottenham summed up West Ham so far this campaign, where frustration has been rife around the London Stadium.

This certainly hasn’t been helped with West Ham also losing to Chelsea and Sunderland, offset by a shock 3-0 away win against Nottingham Forest.

As a result, scrutiny is surrounding Potter as certain sections of supporters demand that the under-pressure West Ham chairman, David Sullivan, pull the trigger.

This comes after the Hammers have gone from bad to worse under the Englishman, especially when compared to the days of Julen Lopetegui and David Moyes.

West Ham have declined further since Julen Lopetegui left

Lopetegui was sacked by West Ham after a poor spell in charge as the direct replacement for the Scot.

The former Real Madrid boss’ exit didn’t come as a surprise, that is how frustrating performances had become with the Spaniard in the dugout.

With that being said, Potter is managing to make his performances look largely positive with the drop off in win rate points per game averages.

In his spell with the Hammers, Lopetegui maintained a 38.89 win percentage throughout his 18 matches in charge, averaging 1.33 points per game.

Although these may not seem like stats to call home about, they dwarf the failings of the current regime, with the ex-Chelsea boss winning 26.32 per cent of the time, with a 1.05 points per game ratio.

Other areas of the Irons’ game have also dwindled this campaign with West Ham conceding the most goals in the Premier League per game this season, with 2.8 compared to the 1.6 of last campaign, as per Sofascore.

Defensive work rate is down across the board with interceptions, successful tackles and clearances down by 3.2, 3.6 and 3.2 respectively from season to season.

West Ham can’t compare Graham Potter and David Moyes

There is no getting away from the fact that Moyes is miles ahead of the current Hammers head coach.

Fans complained about a lack of attacking impetus under the Scot, but he still managed to watch his side average 1.6 goals per game, 2.1 big chances per game and 9.3 successful dribbles per game.

This hardly compares to the failings of Potter, with those same stats coming in at 1.0 goal per game, 1.5 big chances per game and 6.5 dribbles per game.

These are just some of the signs that point towards the failings of the ex-Brighton head coach at the London Stadium right now.
