West Ham player ratings vs Nottingham Forest: Taty Castellanos 3/10 on debut, 5/10 silver lining
West Ham fell to a 2-1 defeat against Nottingham Forest on Tuesday.
It looked set to be a perfect night for the London Stadium outfit when Alphonse Areola made a stunning save from Neco Williams before Murillo’s own goal.
Things were only looking better before Crysencio Summerville’s strike was ruled out for offside with just minutes gone in the second half.
A Nicolas Dominguez equaliser was a dagger to the hosts before Morgan Gibbs-White netted a winning penalty to pile further pressure on Nuno Espirito Santo at West Ham.
Unfortunately, defeat against a relegation rival isn’t good enough, and now West Ham Zone rates each player’s performance out of 10.
Taty Castellanos costs West Ham dearly on debut
West Ham signed Taty Castellanos with the hope of revolutionising their forward line after such a frustrating season.
The Argentine started just a day after signing in East London and certainly looked rusty despite making 11 appearances in Serie A this season.
The 27-year-old took just 21 touches, but in that time missed two big chances and maintained a shot accuracy of just 33 per cent.
Worse than that, he was at fault when he was caught offside before Summerville’s strike was ruled out and then lost Dominguez before he netted the equaliser.
There are no excuses for his failings, and he ultimately made a key difference in why the Hammers went on to lose the game.
Mateus Fernandes bright spark vs Nottingham Forest
Nuno summed up his Irons tenure by taking off Mateus Fernandes with over 10 minutes to go, with the scores level.
The Portuguese midfielder kept up a 100 per cent dribble success as he completed the most on the pitch while also completing 34 passes.
The 21-year-old’s energy in the centre of the park was just what West Ham needed and was certainly missed when he went off.
There were few positives to take from the result against Forest, but Fernandes was up there as one of the silver linings.
Again, there is no real excuse for Nuno taking him off, and it is a decision which could mark the end of his tenure at the London Stadium.
