West Ham player ratings vs Tottenham: Crysencio Summerville shining light as 2/10 dud has shocker

West Ham fell to a horrific defeat against Tottenham on Saturday.

After West Ham secured a 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest last time out, expectations were on the up at the London Stadium.

These have now crashed down to earth around Graham Potter after being smashed 3-0 by Spurs in another London derby defeat in E20.

This began badly when Cristian Romero scored a disallowed header for Tottenham, before the floodgates eventually opened in the second half.

Plenty of blame for the defeat can be placed on the shoulders of Tomas Soucek, as West Ham Zone rates each player’s performance out of 10.

Crysencio Summerville the exception for West Ham

After coming back from such a lengthy injury, eyebrows were raised when the Dutchman came straight back into the starting 11 against the Lilywhites.

This came after Summerville put in a top performance against Forest as a substitute in his comeback appearance.

In fairness to the 23-year-old, he represented the biggest threat for the Hammers, completing two dribbles and also having an impact defensively with one tackle and three clearances.

This saw Summerville look like the Hammers’ best player on the evening, as the likes of Jarrod Bowen and Lucas Paqueta struggled to impact the game.

It will be interesting to see how this will impact his fitness, especially after being taken off with just over 60 minutes on the clock at the London Stadium.

Tomas Soucek let himself down vs Tottenham

There is no getting away from how poor the Czechia international’s challenge on Joao Palhinha was just minutes into the second half.

The 30-year-old caught the Spurs midfielder high on the shin, cutting his sock in the process.

That isn’t to say that his performance was positive before that, having failed to complete a single long ball in three attempts while also losing out on four duels and one tackle.

It was a strangely poor day for Soucek, who has typically been a positive operator in claret and blue, but he let himself down and cost West Ham this time.
