West Ham now officially most forgiving team in Premier League, but Nuno can fix the problem

West Ham United remain in the Premier League relegation zone but their chances of survival have increased massively over the last month.

The Hammers have taken 10 points from their last five top-flight games, and are now just three points adrift of 17th-placed Nottingham Forest.

West Ham drew 1-1 with Manchester United on Tuesday night, but looked primed to secure the victory after Tomas Soucek put them ahead in the second half.

However, a last-gasp Benjamin Sesko equaliser left Nuno Espirito Santo’s side ruing a missed opportunity, which has become a familiar feeling this season.

West Ham could have 20 points more

West Ham let two points slip against Man United at London Stadium, and it is not the first time this term they have relinquished their grip on a game.

In fact, the Hammers have dropped 20 points from winning positions in the Premier League this season, more than any other side in the top-flight.

If West Ham added those points to their current tally of 24, they would be joint fifth with Chelsea in the Premier League.

While that is, of course, an unrealistic scenario, it does highlight just how much of an issue letting leads slip is for the East London side.

If Nuno can find a way to tighten up at the back once the Hammers get ahead, then they will comfortably stay up.

West Ham lead Premier League in another statistic

Unsurprisingly, given that the Hammers have dropped so many points from winning positions this season, they have been fast starters.

As shown in the Sofascore graphic below, West Ham lead the way in the Premier League for goals in the first 15 minutes this term.

Nuno’s side have found the back of the net nine times before the 15-minute mark in total, with five of those occasions coming within the last month, as highlighted in the Sofascore graphic below.

West Ham lead the way for the most goals in the opening 15 minutes of Premier League games this season.

Starting quickly has been a key part of West Ham’s recent revival, and Nuno will be keen to keep that trend going in the coming weeks.

The East London outfit have improved dramatically since the turn of the year, but will need to continue their good form to retain their Premier League status.
