Julen Lopetegui needs much more from West Ham ace who’s letting him down
Crysencio Summerville has had a tough time at West Ham so far having failed to make much of an impact and he needs to start producing more.
Summerville’s arrival in the past summer was cause for optimism at West Ham given his impressive showings in the Championship for Leeds United but things haven’t gone quite according to plan.
The Dutchman has shown glimpses of promise this season, but at large, he’s failed to offer much to the Irons and he simply has to start contributing more.
Summerville failing to provide the goods at West Ham
The 23-year-old has started six games while making an appearance in a further nine in the Premier League but has just two goal contributions to his name.
If Paqueta, or any attacking player for that matter, is to depart the club in January, he would likely be the next called-upon but he needs to offer more if that is the case.
According to FotMob, Summerville has completed just seven dribbles so far this season, with a completion rate of 36.8 per cent. A worrying return which places him in the bottom 23.2 per cent of players who occupy the same position as him in the Premier League.
Just one long ball has been completed by the Dutchman with another poor return in terms of his completion rate. Just 16.7 per cent of his attempted long-range passes end with West Ham retaining possession.
One key area for the way the Hammers play under Julen Lopetegui is their ability to win the ball high up the pitch which again, Summerville has failed to contribute to. The Dutchman has managed to win possession just once in the final third.
The main area has thrived in is his ability to cross the ball. A 56.2 per cent cross accuracy is one of the best in the Premier League but his inability to beat defenders means he is unable to get into a position to cross the ball on more occasions.
There is no doubt that he has the ability, but that ability needs to start being showcased far more regularly if he is to have an impact.
