West Ham 3-2 Burnley: What happened at London Stadium and all the key stats
West Ham triumphed in a 3-2 win over Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday.
West Ham’s 3-1 win over Newcastle United last matchday gave them momentum heading into their clash against Burnley at the London Stadium.
The win over the Clarets edged Nuno Espirito Santo closer to lifting West Ham from the relegation zone.
And the new manager seems to be doing exactly that with West Ham’s win over Burnley, seeing them 18th in the table, level with the Clarets in points and goal difference.

What the stats are saying about West Ham’s clash vs Burnley
The first half was a lively affair for both sides, with Callum Wilson pulling one back for the Hammers one minute before half-time.
As expected, West Ham dominated the attacking metrics:
- The Hammers took seven shots to Burnley’s five
- West Ham had five corners to the Clarets two
- Nuno’s side registered 1.19 expected goals while his opponents had 0.24
Interestingly, the opponents edged in possession with 52 per cent, according to Sofascore. But as seen in West Ham’s win over Newcastle, the Hammers are more lethal when on the counter-attack.
West Ham fans would’ve felt largely overrun by their opponents in the first half, with it seeming like they were losing all their second balls.
However, the Hammers were statistically the better team in the initial period, winning 51 per cent of their total duels.
They won 58 per cent of their ground duels, 35 per cent of their aerial duels and 73 per cent of their tackles.
Meanwhile, Burnley won 49 per cent of their duels, and were victorious in 42 per cent of their ground duels, 65 per cent of their aerial duels and 50 per cent of their tackles.
The Clarets were dispossessed in duels seven times, while the Hammers lost the ball just twice.
The second half was much better from the Hammers, netting two more past their opponents net.
- West Ham and Burnley both created two big chances in the second half
- Burnley took 10 shots to West Ham’s eight
- Both had two corner kicks each
Despite conceding two goals, the Clarets put in a defensive shift, winning 66 per cent of their duels.

Burnley won 64 per cent of their ground duels, 70 per cent of their aerial duels and 88 per cent of their tackles.
Meanwhile, the Hammers won 36 per cent of their ground duels, 30 per cent of their aerial duels and 67 per cent of their tackles.
But all in all, it was a job well done for the home side before the international break.
How it all went down at the London Stadium
The visitors opened the scoring at the London Stadium after Zian Flemming’s headed effort from a Lesley Ugochukwu cross rippled Alphonse Areola’s net.
It was suggested that Wilson’s importance for Nuno would increase after their Newcastle win, and that was the case on Saturday.
Indeed, Crysencio Summerville collected a pass from a short corner and drove into the opposition box with the intent to score.
While his effort was blocked, the ball fell into the path of Wilson, who headed it home and equalised for the Hammers.
Freddie Potts, whose excellent performance against Newcastle, earned him a start against the Clarets. However, the midfielder was forced to come off midway through the second half after sustaining what looked to be a hamstring injury.
Tomas Soucek, like the super-sub he has grown to become, then fired the Hammers in front after netting 77 minutes into the second half.
Kyle Walker-Peters netted their third after Soucek’s effort spilled from the keeper’s hands, and even a last-minute Josh Cullen goal wasn’t enough to derail an important win for the Hammers.
