Julen Lopetegui will be buzzing at what Edson Alvarez did away from West Ham
West Ham United star Edson Alvarez shone for Mexico in their 4-0 win against Honduras at home on Wednesday.
The midfielder played the full 90 minutes as El Tri beat Honduras 4-2 on aggregate in the CONCACAF Nations League quarter-finals on 20 November.
He was quiet in Mexico’s 2-0 loss to the same opponents on Saturday [16 November], but returned to his usual self on this occasion.
Edson Alvarez returns to usual self away from West Ham, Julen Lopetegui will be buzzing
The trip to Honduras at the weekend was Alvarez’s first game since being sent off in the Irons’ 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest on 2 November, with the red card seemingly haunting him.
However, he did not hold himself back on Wednesday, engaging himself in 12 duels, including three in the air, and winning five of them [42 per cent], according to FotMob. This also came with a downside as he committed four fouls, albeit without any repercussions.
The former Ajax man’s other defensive contributions included four recoveries and a block and clearance each.

No player was more involved than the 27-year-old, who registered 99 touches – the most in the game. He also completed 75 of his 81 passes, including 13 into the final third, with 93 per cent accuracy, which was also more than anyone.
Lopetegui can definitely take confidence from Alvarez’s latest performance on the international stage as he prepares to return to action for West Ham after missing their 0-0 draw with Everton on 9 November through suspension.
In other West Ham news, this Premier League star has been identified as a long-term replacement for Lucas Paqueta.
