Callum Wilson trumps Erling Haaland in latest Premier League reveal

Callum Wilson ranks third for shots on target in the Premier League this season.

It was suggested that Wilson’s importance for Nuno Espirito Santo would increase after West Ham’s 3-1 win over Newcastle United earlier this month.

That assessment was bang on the money after he netted in a Man of the Match performance for West Ham in their 3-2 win over Burnley a week later.

Indeed, it now seems that the Hammers are finally seeing the player they’d hoped for when he put pen to paper over the summer.

Callum Willson eclipses Erling Haaland’s shots on target percentage

Wilson has recorded 1.70 shots on target with 70 per cent accuracy in the Premier League this season.

In comparison, Erling Haaland has recorded 1.70 shots on target with a 60 per cent accuracy for Manchester City.

Wilson’s combined shots on target and accuracy placed him third in the overall ranking, with Haaland leading the pack.

However, the Norwegian international has netted 14 goals with a 31 per cent goal conversion rate, while the Hammers star has scored two with a 20 per cent goal conversion rate, according to Sofascore.

One reason for this is that Wilson does not receive nearly the same amount of minutes or chances as Haaland.

In addition to this, he has averaged 2.5 shots per game in the Premier League, while Wilson has averaged 0.9 per game. This is a mighty difference that cannot be ignored.

However, his shot on target stats indicate that Wilson would score more if granted greater goalscoring opportunities.

The England international could clearly become a superstar for the Hammers under the right conditions.

Nuno Espirito Santo knows what he has to do

After back-to-back solid performances for West Ham, Nuno has no choice but to start Wilson more frequently.

The Hammers have netted six goals in their last two league games, becoming a better goalscoring threat since Nuno arrived at West Ham.

With increased chances comes a need for an efficient goalscorer to find the back of the net.

That’s where Wilson comes in, and given his recent goalscoring statistics, he could break double digits for the Hammers with a little more gametime.
