Callum Wilson matches Premier League record with West Ham goal vs Nottingham Forest

Callum Wilson has not been a West Ham player long, but he is already making headlines with the East London club.

West Ham signed Wilson on a free transfer after he left Newcastle United, but he arrived with considerable doubts.

However, the striker was on target as Graham Potter claimed his first win of the Premier League season against Nottingham Forest on Sunday, a 3-0 victory at the City Ground.

Indeed, in doing so, the Englishman now tops the charts when it comes to a certain top-flight statistic.

Callum Wilson tops substitute goal charts after West Ham exploits

Tony Cascarino was critical of Wilson’s injury record when discussing the forward’s move to the London Stadium.

Last season, the 33-year-old failed to make any real impact at St James’ Park, although he endured significant injuries while playing second fiddle to Alexander Isak.

Indeed, Wilson failed to score a single Premier League goal last season, although he boasted a solid top-flight record for the North East club.

MichaIl Antonio told West Ham fans to support Wilson, and they are more likely to do so after his latest performance.

Since the start of the 2022/23 campaign, no player has scored more goals as a substitute in the Premier League than the Hammers’ striker.

Wilson has scored eight goals from the bench in that time, while former Aston Villa forward Jhon Duran also has eight.

Callum Wilson can play integral role for Graham Potter

Remarkably, Wilson has now scored more league goals this term than he managed the entirety of last season.

With his first goal for the Irons under his belt, he can now enjoy the international break knowing that he has made an impact for the East London club.

While he has made a significant contribution from the bench, he will be eyeing a starting place in Potter’s team.

That should not be too tricky, given the heavy criticism aimed at Niclas Fullkrug, who has failed to score in three Premier League starts.

Although he has his doubters, Wilson will be on a mission to prove that he can still cut it in the top flight.
