West Ham concerned Jesse Lingard won’t be available v Burnley
Jesse Lingard is a major doubt to play for West Ham in their clash against Burnley on Monday night at Turf Moor, according to Sun journalist Duncan Wright.
Writing on the Sun’s live blog on Tuesday [07:42pm], Wright reported that Lingard “underwent intensive treatment on his aching legs” last week to ensure he was able to play against Chelsea at the weekend.
However, it is understood that the issue is still hampering the on-loan Manchester United attacker and the Hammers are concerned about whether he’ll be able to play at Burnley in the London club’s next fixture.
Oh no
West Ham’s bid to qualify for the Champions League has taken blow after blow in the last couple of weeks with defeats to Chelsea and Newcastle compounding the many injury issues David Moyes has had to deal with.
Declan Rice, Michail Antonio, Aaron Cresswell and Arthur Masuaku have all been sidelined with various issues and the last thing we want is for Lingard to be deemed unavailable to play against Burnley on Monday.
At the weekend, we saw that Sean Dyche’s side is able to pull off a shock result as they beat Wolves 4-0 at Molineux to ease relegation fears.
We all knew it was going to be a tall order to qualify for the Champions League but to be without Lingard for a prolonged spell – or even just one game – is a massive blow.
However, we’d rather see Lingard miss one game now then miss two of three games in a few weeks’ time as the season draws to a close.
Moyes might just have to bite the bullet on this one and let Lingard sit out of the trip to Burnley and pray that his other attackers can do the job against Dyche’s men.
West Ham did well before Lingard came in so let’s see if they can re-discover some of that pre-January form.
