‘Proper player’, ‘Perfect’ – Many West Ham fans blown away by ‘Outstanding’ ace in 2-2 draw

West Ham United made it two unbeaten on Sunday as they took a point away from Newcastle in a 2-2 draw.

Michail Antonio got the Irons off to the perfect start but they were pegged back only minutes later as Miguel Almiron stole in for the equaliser.

It was a similar story in the second half. Tomas Soucek scored once again to regain the lead, only for Jonjo Shelvey to score a matter of minutes later – that’s how it finished.

Soucek has been a breath of fresh air since arriving at the London Stadium, and his loan switch will be made permanent if the Hammers survive relegation this month.

The Czech international has been the standout player in East London since January and appears to pop up everywhere in the most important moments of each game.

The 25-year-old has scored twice in his eight Premier League appearances, but it has been his defensive work that has caught the eye.

Soucek wins 4.9 of his aerial battles per game according to WhoScored but also completes 2.5 tackles and interceptions – impressive.

Against the Magpies, Soucek was everywhere. He had three shots on goal as well as completing a key pass.

Out of possession, the 25-year-old won seven aerial battles and also completed a single tackle and clearance at St James’ Park.

Many West Ham fans reacted to the performance of Soucek on Sunday, with the majority blown away with the impact he has had on Moyes’ men.
