Felipe Anderson set to join Lazio from West Ham for free

West Ham United winger Felipe Anderson is set to join Lazio on a free transfer, according to TuttoMercatoWeb.

However, the Hammers are including a 50 per cent sell-on clause in the deal, and it is close to being wrapped up [TuttoMercatoWeb].

Anderson spent last season on loan at Portuguese outfit Porto and was back at West Ham for pre-season during the week.

West Ham

Huge loss

The Irons spent a then club-record fee of £36million on the Brazilian when they signed him from Lazio in July 2018, in a deal that could potentially rise to £41.5million [BBC].

Despite hitting the ground running upon joining us, scoring nine goals and assisting four others in 36 top-flight games, things went south in 2019-20.

Anderson scored just once and made four assists in 25 league games, and things did not improve last term in Portugal, as he played just nine games across all competitions.

Letting go of the 28-year-old for nothing is bad business, and we can only hope it is not true.

West Ham

However, nothing that the West Ham board does surprise us anymore, and we will be looking forward to seeing something official on the development.

While Anderson does not seem to have a future under manager David Moyes, we cannot afford to let him for free, and the reported 50 per cent sell-on clause included in the proposed contract would not be enough compensation.

At his age, there is very little resale value on him, and we should not expect anything tangible from a sale if it ever happens.
