WHZ View: West Ham could be walking tightrope after contracts admission
West Ham United boss David Moyes has admitted that the Irons will not be offering any new contracts to players until 2021.
Fabian Balbuena and Michail Antonio are in the final year of their contracts at the London Stadium but will have to wait to resolve their futures.
Both have become key figures in the successful start to the Premier League season, and will likely earn new deals.
Moyes commented on contracts in his latest press conference via the Evening Standard, claiming they are focusing on the matters on the pitch.
“We’ve not been bothered too much with the contracts, we’ve been trying to get the whole club moving forward. We’ll get around the players when we think it’s the right time. So we’re focusing on the team and the games at the moment.”
West Ham are walking a tightrope with this one, and they could lose two of their brightest players if they are not careful.
Thankfully, matters on the pitch couldn’t be more perfect right now, and that is one thing that will make the Irons duo want to stick around past this season.
Everyone knows what Antonio can do, and he has been a massive miss during his latest injury blow in the past month.
No player has a better WhoScored average match rating, and he will likely return to the squad against Aston Villa tonight.
Balbuena, on the other hand, may go under the radar, but he has certainly impressed in this new defensive system.
The Paraguayan international has made the most clearances per game, and only Declan Rice has completed more interceptions for the Irons.
No matter what Moyes believes, the quicker these two are secured, the better and we cross our fingers that doesn’t come back to haunt us.
